(VOVworld) – The Vietnamese Ambassador to Bulgaria, Le Duc Luu, has spoken to the Group of Bulgaria-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians about China’s illegal placement of oil rig Haiyang 981 in Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone.

The Bulgaria-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians called on China to take action to ease tensions and restrain from unilateral activities which could harm regional peace and stability. They asked China to respect the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) to which China is a signatory. They urged the involved countries to negotiate and resolve disputes by peaceful measures to ensure safety, security, and freedom of navigation in the East Sea.
