China vows to “fight to the end” after US threat of 50% additional tariffs
(VOVWORLD) -China firmly opposes the US threat to impose 50% additional tariffs on the country, a Chinese Ministry of Commerce spokesperson said in a statement posted on the Ministry’s official website Tuesday morning.

The Ministry vowed to “resolutely take countermeasures”, warning “China will fight to the end if the US side is bent on going down the wrong path.”
The spokesperson said that the US's imposition of so-called "reciprocal tariffs" on China is completely groundless and that the countermeasures China has taken are aimed at protecting its sovereignty, security and development interests, maintaining the normal international trade order and are "legitimate actions".
A day earlier, US President Donald Trump threatened an additional 50% tariff if Beijing did not reverse its own 34% reciprocal tariff.
On Truth Social on Monday morning, the US president said that China enacted the retaliatory tariffs despite his “warning that any country that Retaliates against the U.S. by issuing additional Tariffs” would be “immediately met with new and substantially higher Tariffs, over and above those initially set”.
“Additionally, all talks with China concerning their requested meetings with us will be terminated!” Trump added. “Negotiations with other countries, which have also requested meetings, will begin taking place immediately.”
