(VOVWORLD) -General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong and President of the Cambodian People’s Party and Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Sen co-chaired a high-level meeting between the two Parties in Hanoi on Saturday.

At the meeting, both leaders informed each other about the situation of their Party and country, assessed global and regional situations, results of cooperation, and mapped out future cooperation directions.
Mr. Trong emphasized the strategic importance of the Vietnam-Cambodia relationship for each country’s security and development and for peace, stability and development in the region and the world.
Mr. Hun Sen affirmed that in addition to consolidating and developing political ties, the two sides need to strengthen economic and trade cooperation to serve national development.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh applauded cooperation results in all fields and proposed specific cooperation directions between the two countries.
They agreed that amid the current situation, the two parties and two countries need to strengthen solidarity, closely coordinate and support each other, and continue to consider political relations of paramount importance for orientating the relationship.
The two sides stressed the need to step up cooperation between agencies of the Party, the National Assembly, ministries and branches of the Government, the Front, people's organizations and localities of the two countries.
