Composer Pho Duc Phuong dies, aged 76

(VOVWORLD) - Composer Pho Duc Phuong, whose songs are imbued with northern folk melodies, died on Saturday due to cancer. He was 76.

Phuong was born in 1944 in the northern province of Hung Yen. He is widely known as one of the most prominent composers in Vietnam over the last 50 years.

Phuong was the founder and former director of the Vietnam Centre for the Protection of Music Copyrights.

His most popular songs include Trên Đỉnh Phù Vân (On the Top of ‘Cloud Summit’), Không Thể và Có Thể (Can’t and Can), Về Quê (Back to the Homeland), Một Thoáng Tây Hồ (A Glimpse of West Lake), Chảy Đi Sông Ơi (Let’s Flow, River) and Hồ Trên Núi (Lake on Mountain).

Phuong was considered a composer of northern rural areas and the Red River Delta. Northern folk singing has influenced distinctly on his creations.

His funeral will take place on Thursday at the National Funeral House in Hanoi.
