The 25,000 USD flag pole is 25 meters high and 175 meters away from the water surface. This has been the idea of the Vietnamese Students’ Association after the first pole was built in Thoi Loi mountain on Ly Son island, Quang Ngai province.
Tho Chu island is in Vietnam’s south-westernmost area, which borders Thailand, Cambodia, and Malaysia. Construction of the flag pole is aimed at asserting Vietnam’s maritime sovereignty.
