(VOVWORLD) - US President Donald Trump's decision to impose a 25% tariff on imported steel and aluminum has sparked a reaction from European countries, while Australia and Brazil have taken cautious steps to protect their trade interests.

The leaders of Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic said that the US’s tariff measure could trigger a trade war that will harm relevant parties.
Earlier EC President Ursula von der Leyen, EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic, and the leaders of Canada and Thailand have voiced concern over US tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.
The Brazilian government said it does not participate the trade war.
The Japanese Embassy in the US on Wednesday formally requested that Washington exempt Japan from the 25% tariff on imported aluminum and steel.
