(VOVWORLD) - Senior Party members met in Hanoi on Monday to discuss the fight against COVID-19, socio-economic development, and Party building.

The 4th session of the current Party Central Committee will look at pandemic prevention and control measures, socio-economic development this year and next year, the state budget, and delayed implementation of salary policy reform.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong stressed the importance of “comprehensively evaluating epidemic prevention and control, socio-economic development over the past 9 months, and outlining a forecast till the end of this year.”

“More attention should be given to assessing the effectiveness and shortcomings of the new guidelines, policies, and measures to overcome the effects of the epidemic while maintaining socio-economic development,” he said.

Party leader Trong underscored the need to assess the viability of planned goals and tasks for this year, especially the ones intended to contain the epidemic, keep the macroeconomy stable, and balance the economy.

Mr. Trong called for increased help for workers and businesses to restore and expand production and trade, stabilize people's lives, ensure social security, protect national independence, sovereignty, political security, and social order, and safety, maintain a peaceful and stable environment for national development in the new period.

Committee members will also seek ways to intensify Party building and rectification and the fight against degradation of political ideology, morality, and lifestyle, and “self-evolution” and “self-transformation”. 

Party leader Trong said Party building and rectification are vital for the Party.

During the session which will continue through Thursday, the Party Central Commitee will revise regulations on things Party members are not allowed to do, and will consider several other important issues.
