COVID-19: Indonesia, Russia report highest deathtoll per day

On Friday, Indonesia confirmed 54,000 new COVID-19 cases, the third record high since the outset of the pandemic and the third day in a row that daily caseload exceeded 50,000. So far, the Southeast Asian country has recorded a total of over 2.7 million cases and more than 71,000 deaths from COVID-19.

Russia in the past 24 hours reported 800 more deaths from COVID-19, the highest daily level since the disease broke out in the country and the fourth consecutive day at the highest level. Russia is currently seeing a surge in infection cases, which, according to the country's officials, are caused by the Delta variant.

On Friday, the UK announced 36,800 new cases of Delta variant infection in the week from July 7-14, down from more than 54,000 cases in the previous week.
