Speaking at the launch of a campaign to keep Britain in the EU, he said terrorists, rapists, and murderers will try to evade arrest in their homeland and come to the UK.
He said if a criminal somewhere else in Europe was fleeing justice, he would come to the UK because it will take a lot longer to extradite him. Mr. Orde highlighted the benefits of cross-border EU co-operation in tackling crimes such as human trafficking, and said the extradition process would take longer if the UK were outside the EU and an EU-wide arrest warrant no longer applied.
