Cuban National Assembly passes maritime law

The Cuban National Assembly adopted a new maritime law at its annual meeting, chaired by Cuban President Raul Castro on Saturday.

Cuban Transport Minister Cesar Arocha said the new law regulates navigation in Cuba’s territorial waters, adjacent areas, exclusive economic zone in the Gulf of Mexico as well as islands, rivers, lagoons, and reservoirs. The new legislation also covers rescue services, the abandonment of foreign ships in Cuban waters, and the prevention and control of marine pollution.
