(VOVworld) – National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung attended the closing ceremony of the Defense Academy’s 2013-2014 academic year on Wednesday. He said that safeguarding national sovereignty in the new situation requires greater efforts to build up the party and state, solidify the political system, achieve rapid and sustainable economic development, and maintain a peaceful and stable environment for national development.

Mr. Hung said: “We must continue to implement party guidelines on national defense and security, particularly resolution 28 of the Party Central Committee on defending the nation in the new situation. It is crucial to combine national construction and defense with economic development and diplomacy. Vietnam persists in its foreign policy of independence, sovereignty, self-reliance, and the diversification and multilateralization of international regions. Vietnam wants to avoid conflicts, confrontations, dependence, and isolation. There must be measures to avoid wars and maintain long-term peace and stability.”

Mr. Hung asked the Academy to improve its training and cooperate with relevant agencies to provide the party and state with consultations on strategic, military, defense, and security issues.
