(VOVworld) - The Saigon Bridge 2, once completed, will help ease the traffic congestion, as well as boost the socio-economic development of Ho Chi Minh city and other southern economic hubs.

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai spoke at the bridge’s ground-breaking ceremony Saturday in Ho Chi Minh city: "I call on all related parties to be more responsible and strictly follow every step in the construction process to ensure the highest quality of the bridge which may last 100 years. As the bridge is located in Ho Chi Minh city, the country’s leading economic hub, I urge investors and contractors to ensure its architecture, construction quality, and progress."

Construction of the 4-lane bridge with 990m in length, 23.5m in width will be completed after 21 months. The new bridge will go parallel with the existing Saigon Bridge which sees frequent traffic congestion.
