(VOVworld)-Dien Bien province should combine the building of new-style rural areas with poverty reduction while maintaining political stability and border security, said National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan. Working with Dien Bien’s leaders on Monday, Ms. Ngan suggested that the Dien Bien airport be upgraded to facilitate transportation services in the absence of an expressway linking the province with Hanoi and other localities. She underlined the need to fully tap local tourism potential. 

“Dien Bien boasts many tourist attractions including scenic spots, historical relics, ecological sites and distinctive ethnic cultures. These advantages enable the province to diversify its tourism services”, Ms. Ngan noted.

Voice of Vietnam (VOV) President Nguyen The Ky shared Chairwoman Ngan’ view, adding that the historic Dien Bien Phu victory in 1954 should be a highlight of Dien Bien’s tourism.

“The Dien Bien Museum and other relics are not enough to reflect the significance of the Dien Bien Phu victory. The Dien Bien Phu battle is not only a victory for Vietnam but also symbolizes humankind’s desire for independence and freedom”, Mr. Ky said.    

He also asked the Government provide more communications services for people in remote and mountainous areas.
