The President emphasized that since October last year, when Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong paid a historic visit to China, Vietnam has carried out meaningful foreign affairs programs, on both bilateral and multilateral levels. Vietnam has upgraded relations with major partners, including the United States, Japan and the Republic of Korea (in 2022). All these demonstrate Vietnam's vision, attitude, sincerity and spirit of positive contribution to the world, Mr. Thuong said.

Given the global and domestic situation, the President requested diplomats to firmly grasp the country's foreign policy, especially the comprehensive direction of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the 32nd Diplomatic Conference. He called on diplomats to strengthen foreign political relations with other countries and consider economic diplomacy as a key task. The President also noted overseas Vietnamese work and the protection of Vietnamese citizens abroad.

In particular, he said diplomats must have stronger faith in the country's development path, elevating their thinking and stature to be on par with the world.

“We are confident in the political regime and confident in the nation's goals. Diplomats must be very confident about this. Only then can we convince friends around the world, can we actively protect national interests, and can we truly play a pioneering role in creating a peaceful and stable environment for national development,” he said.

President Thuong emphasized that Vietnam is actively participating in multilateral cooperation mechanisms and free trade agreements, and expanding relationships. He urged diplomats to seize this opportunity to promote innovation and reform, increase awareness and swiftly advise the country's leaders to remove obstacles in bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
