The draft was compiled by the UK for participating countries to discuss and reach a consensus on.

The draft calls on countries to strengthen carbon-cutting targets by the end of 2022 and accelerate the phasing-out of coal and subsidies for fossil fuels.

According to the document, to reach the goal of keeping the global temperature rise below 1.5 degrees Celsius as set by the Paris agreement, it will be necessary to take effective action during this critical decade.

Countries are urged to devise long-term strategies by the end of next year to achieve net zero emissions and to review and consolidate their emission reduction targets by 2030 in their national plans to align with the Paris Agreement targets.
