Egypt’s new President Mohamed Morsi has called on all Egyptians to unite in his first address following his electoral victory, and committed himself to becoming a president for all Egyptians. He said that national unity is the only way out of this difficult time for Egypt.

The newly elected President stressed that Egypt wants peace and will establish an equal relationship with any nation on the basis of common good and mutual respect.  UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said he believed that Egypt’s new leader would spare no effort in ensuring that the people of Egypt fully realize their aspirations for greater democracy, human rights, and a more prosperous and stable Egypt for all its citizens. Other countries have also welcomed Morsi’s victory.
