The European Council has allowed the European Commission (EC) to start negotiations with Vietnam on a free trade agreement (FTA). A press release issued on Wednesday from the European Council stated that Vietnam is the third member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to kick off FTA negotiations with the European Union, following Singapore and Malaysia. The negotiations are scheduled to take place soon.
