(VOVworld) – A workshop on international integration and external economic relations was held in Hanoi on Tuesday as part of the ongoing 28th Diplomatic Conference.
In his address, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung asked relevant agencies and individuals to continue promoting Vietnam’s foreign policy. He said that Vietnam should continue to expand its export markets while attracting foreign investment, restructuring the economy and changing its growth model: “We should continue to lure more foreign direct investment. To this end, preferential policies should be formulated, market regulations and mechanisms be clarified and the economy be restructured for higher growth. This is an important task for ambassadors and trade counselors.”
Over the last 2 years, Vietnam has established strategic partnerships with 5 countries and comprehensive partnerships with another 2. Vietnam has expanded its market to Latin America, the Middle East and North Africa. Nguyen Xuan Thuy, Vietnamese ambassador to Indonesia, said: “The world’s 17th largest economy, Indonesia is emerging as a potential market. It is our responsibility to do research and advise the Party and State on measures to increase cooperation. Despite the global economic downturn, Indonesia has been able to maintain its annual growth rate at 6%. Indonesia’s experience is worth learning from.”
Delegates agreed to formulate an action program to implement the Party Politburo’s resolution on international integration, which will be submitted to the government for consideration.
