First Vietnamese police officers sent to UN peacekeeping mission

(VOVWORLD) -Sending forces to UN peacekeeping operations is a major task to deliver on Vietnam’s commitments to protecting world peace, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc said on Friday.

He addressed a ceremony to hand over the President’s decision on sending officers to UN peacekeeping mission and the Minister of Public Security’s decision on establishing the Ministry of Public Security’s Office for UN peacekeeping. 

“Sending forces to UN peacekeeping has contributed to the effective implementation of the Party and State's foreign policy, enhancing the image, role and responsibility of Vietnam's armed forces and the People's Public Security Forces in particular in ensuring regional and global peace and security. I commend the encouraging initial results of the People's Police force’s UN peacekeeping operations,” President Phuc said.

The President congratulated Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Hai, the first police officer and four other officers to carry out UN peacekeeping operations.

As the world will face uncertainties, he called for Vietnam’s stronger  commitment to work together with the international community and come up with solutions to respond to traditional and non-traditional security challenges under the UN banner.

President Phuc said he believes that Vietnam's forces participating in UN peacekeeping operations and the People's Public Security Forces in particular will promote their achievements and fulfill all peacekeeping tasks, meeting UN requirements and expectations of the country and the people.
