FM discusses Myanmar issue with UN Chief’s special envoy

(VOVWORLD) - Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary General on Myanmar Christine Schraner Burgener shared updates on the situation in Myanmar during a meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia, on Saturday.

Burgerner expressed her concern over the losses of human lives in Myanmar and said she hopes ASEAN will take positive steps to help settle the situation, bringing stability and peace to Myanmar.

FM Son took note of the efforts by the UN and Burgener herself in the matter and affirmed that Vietnam shared the deep concerns of the international community and of the UN on the Myanmar crisis.

Vietnam has been closely following the development in the country and takes an active part, together with ASEAN, in seeking the most suitable solution for Myanmar, he said.

The Minister stressed the importance of restraint, halt of violence, humanitarian support, dialogue, and the central role of ASEAN in the whole process.

As the only ASEAN country now working as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, Vietnam has been striving to ensure the UN have balanced and comprehensive discussion on Myanmar, said Mr. Son.
