Further comments on revised 1992 Constitution

(VOVworld)- Many organizations and agencies in Hanoi and HCM City on Thursday held meetings to collect opinions on the revisions to the 1992 Constitution. Delegates to an online meeting with experts of the Ministry of Justice discussed the power control stipulated in the Article 2 regarding the socialist State governed by law. According to the delegates, building a Constitution is an effective tool for people to control the State power. To make this work effective, it is important to clearly stipulate the legislation, execution and judiciary work in the Constitution.

HCM City’s Fatherland Front held a meeting to collect comments from religious dignitaries, ethnic minority people and overseas Vietnamese. Some delegates said that constitutional amendments are suitable with national development and international integration, however, some words and phrases should be changed. Tran Thanh Truyen, Secretary General of Vietnam Seventh-day Adventist Church says: “The article 25 of the revised 1992 Constitution matches with the current reality. The article, which previously stipulated that “citizens have the right to freedom of religion”, is now changed to say “everyone has the right to freedom of religion”. I think it’s good to say so. The article 25 says “ No one has the right to violate the freedom of religion”. We propose changing to say “no organization and no one have the right to violate the freedom of religion”.

Meanwhile, at a meeting organized by the HCM City Law University and the Legislation Research Magazine of the NA’s Office, delegates discussed chapters relating to human rights and the organization of State apparatuses.
