The meeting is taking place amid the world’s unprecedented challenges, including tensions between Israel and Hamas, a humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and the potential danger of artificial intelligence.

High on the agenda are the situations in the Middle East, Europe, and the Indo-Pacific region with the primary focus being measures to quell the Israel-Hamas conflict and ensure humanitarian assistance to the civilians in Gaza.

Prior to the meeting, Japanese Foreign Minister Kamikawa visited the Middle East to express concern about humanitarian crisis risks in the Gaza Strip and pledged to increase humanitarian aid to the region by approximately 65 million USD.

The meeting will also address the risks associated with AI, the countermeasures that can be taken, and the application of AI to legal frameworks, based on consensus among private business organizations.

On October 30, the G7 countries reached an agreement on guiding principles and a Code of Conduct for developers of advanced forms of AI, which is part of the G7's efforts to mitigate risks related to disinformation and data privacy.
