(VOVWORLD) - German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier called on the international community to be united against the current complicated global political development at the annual Munich security conference in Munich on Friday.

He said year by year, the world is distancing from the goal of international cooperation to create a more peaceful world and swiped President Donald Trump’s “America First” foreign policy which, he added, has upset the world order and increased instability.
Steinmeier underscored the importance of maintaining trans-Atlantic cooperation, adding that Europe should enhance its security control. To that end, one of the measures is to increase defense budget.
The 56th Munich security conference gathered 40 state leaders and 100 ministers, and representatives of NATO, EC, non-governmental organizations, and businesses to discuss current crises and future security challenges.
