French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel met in Berlin on Thursday to discuss reforming the European Union. President Macron said this is an important time for the bloc, as wars and trade conflicts test its sovereignty. Ms. Merkel called for open debates towards a final agreement, adding that EU members can only benefit by working together. Both agreed that the Eurozone is still vulnerable to crisis. They said France and Germany will establish a reform plan in June despite differing viewpoints.

Both leaders said that they want to share responsibility for Syria and will visit the US next week.
