Government shutdown costs US economy 11 billion USD, CBO says

(VOVWORLD) - The five-week federal government shutdown took a significant economic toll, costing the US economy 11 billion USD, with nearly a quarter of that total permanently lost, the Congressional Budget Office said on Monday.

But the CBO expects 8 billion USD to be recovered as the government reopens and federal workers receive their back pay. The cost of the shutdown will make the US economy 0.02 percent smaller than expected in 2019.
President Donald Trump will deliver his annual State of the Union address next week.
