Short-term measures to be implemented by May include enhancing public awareness of IUU fishing prevention through effective communication and training, as well as rigorously enforcing fisheries laws to regulate the fishing fleet. Adherence to both Vietnamese and international laws on seafood traceability is imperative, along with investigating, identifying, and addressing all illegal fishing activities.

The Government is committed to modernizing the fisheries industry, improving fishermen’s livelihoods, and overseeing fishery workers in line with domestic and international labor standards.

Other highlights of the program include enhanced international cooperation, negotiations on delimitation of the exclusive economic zones and continental shelves between Vietnam and other nations, resolution of maritime disputes, and fulfillment of international commitments and agreements regarding ocean resources and marine ecosystems.
