Guinea free of Ebola

(VOVworld) – Guinea’s Health Ministry and the World Health Organisation say Guinea is free of Ebola. The country has reported no new case in the, 42 days since the last patient recovered and was released from hospital. Sierra Leone was declared free of Ebola in November, but new cases have emerged in Liberia, which had been declared Ebola-free in September.

The disease has killed more than 2,500 people in Guinea and 9,000 in Sierra Leone and Liberia. According to the UN, 6,200 Guinean children have lost one or both parents to Ebola. The WHO says that since its outbreak in 2013, more than 28,600 people have been infected with Ebola and 11,000 people have died, mostly in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone.
The WB estimates losses due to Ebola in these three western African at 1.6 billion USD.
