The festival, which will run until April 15, will feature various activities to honor the beauty of the traditional dress and promote the image of Vietnam and its people.

The opening ceremony will showcase more than 300 ao dais from 15 outstanding collections by renowned local designers.

A display of over 2,000 people wearing the dress will be held on Sunday followed by an art program, an exhibition, and a fashion design contest.

Also on Tuesday, the Southern Women's Museum convened an exhibition space showcasing ao dai worn by Vietnamese women in the two resistance wars against foreign invaders as well as more than 60 documentary photos of the dress from the early 19th century to present.

"These are the photos and documentaries that we have collected over the past 35 years. On this occasion, the Southern Women’s Museum organized two booths for ao dai tailoring. Visitors will receive discounts to get their ao dai tailored. We want to see more women wearing the  traditional long dress," said Nguyen Thi Tham, Director of the museum.
