(VOVworld) - Landslides in Japan’s Hiroshima prefecture have killed at least 32 people and left 9 missing. Japan's Self-Defense Forces have been asked to send 500 personnel to assist rescue efforts. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe cut short his vacation and returned to his office to set up a taskforce.
A record-breaking 243 millimeters of rain was recorded in the area in 24 hours ending Wednesday. Japan’s Meteorological Agency warns that heavy rains are likely to hit the western region whose soil could collapse if it is soaked.
