IAEA pledges further cooperation with Vietnam  

(VOVWORLD) - Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang called on the UN nuclear watchdog to expand its cooperation with Vietnam, especially in policy making and personnel training in atomic energy.

At a meeting with Deputy Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Hua Liu in Hanoi on Thursday, Mr. quang said Vietnam is committed to fulfilling its obligations and contributing responsibly to international treaties to which it is a signatory, especially those related to safety and security, the fight against illegal trafficking and transportation of radioactive substances and nuclear materials, and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.

He said Vietnam always backs the IAEA in shaping standards and frameworks for nuclear safety and security, especially emerging nuclear technologies.

Hua Liu, who is on a visit to Vietnam, said the IAEA will continue its cooperation with Vietnam, especially in technical assistance, personnel training, infrastructure development, and the perfection of regulations and standards to ensure nuclear safety and security. He pledged to help Vietnam optimize its use of nuclear technology in smart agriculture.
