IFC, ADB pledge to support Vietnam’s socio-economic development

(VOVWORLD) - Head of the Party Central Economic Commission Nguyen Van Binh has urged the International Financial Corporation to continue to help Vietnam through investment projects in infrastructure, finance, banking, IT and education.

Binh was speaking at a meeting with IFC Chief Operation Officer Stephanic von Friedeburge in Hanoi on Thursday. Ms Stephanie von Friedeburg promised to continue helping Vietnam upgrade its financial infrastructure, develop the capital market, and promote renewable energy and green and sustainable growth as well as develop financial products for the private sector and provide technical assistance for the public sector in order to improve the investment climate in Vietnam.

The same day, Mr. Binh received In-chang Song, member of the Board of Directors of the Asian Development Bank in charge of South Korea, Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan (China), Uzbekistan, Vanuatu, and Vietnam. At the meeting, Mr. In-chang Song said the ADB will implement flexible policies to help Vietnam utilize ADF fundings, restructure the economy, and achieve poverty reduction goals. He said the ADB wants to expand the funding for the private sector in Vietnam not only in infrastructure and finance but also in education and agriculture.
