Improving state agencies’ role in detecting and handling corruption

(VOVworld) – The Government Inspectorate on Tuesday held a workshop on improving the state agencies’ role in detecting and handling corruption in Hanoi. Participants agreed that anti-corruption efforts had achieved positive results with many corruption cases detected timely and dealt with over the last few years. However, they said, limitations still remained concerning the application of legal regulations on anti-corruption, the lack of transparency in officials’ asset inventories and clarifying the responsibility of those involved. Nguyen Quoc Hiep, Director of the Inspectorate Research Institute under the Government Inspectorate, stressed the important role of state agencies in detecting and handling corruption matters: “It is crucial to establish a channel to collect corruption-related information in an impartial way. The responsibility of those agencies involved in anti-corruption activity should be clarified. Corruption behaviors including illegal interference into investigations should be recognized and dealt with in Criminal Law.”
