Inclusive policy approach needed to address population and development challenges: Deputy PM - ảnh 1Deputy PM Tran Hong Ha speaks at a meeting of the National Population and Development Steering Committee in Hanoi on March 15, 2024.

Mr. Ha, who also heads the National Population and Development Steering Committee, was speaking at a conference in Hanoi on Friday on the Committee’s tasks for this year.

He said addressing the challenges of population and development requires an inclusive policy approach covering economics, politics, social welfare, education, and other aspects, to ensure a harmonious and reasonable population size, structure, and quality between regions.

According to the Ministry of Health’s report, Vietnam's population last year was estimated at 100.3 million, with a growth rate of 0.84%. Vietnam is now enjoying a golden population structure, with nearly 70% of the population of working age.

The quality of the population has improved in many aspects, including physical health, life expectancy, cultural level, and reproductive health counseling, but the large population also puts pressure on economic, technical, social, urban, and rural environmental infrastructure. Vietnam is also one of the most rapidly ageing countries in the world. It is expected to go into the aged population by 2038.
