Indonesia sets free 33 VNese fishermen

(VOVworld) – 33 of the 48 Vietnamese fishermen who have been detained in Indonesia’s West Kalimantan, will be freed to reunite with their families for the Lunar New Year. The Vietnamese Embassy in Indonesia has worked to protect the Vietnamese citizens and co-operate with Indonesia’s Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, and Ministry of Seas and Fisheries in cases involving the rights and property of Vietnamese citizens in custody. The West Kalimantan Governor praised the Vietnamese government’s support of Vietnamese people and pledged to work with his country’s agencies and the Vietnamese Embassy to get the Vietnamese citizens released.

During a visit by a delegation of the Vietnamese Embassy to a prison in Pontianak, township, West Kalimantan, the detained fishermen said they have been treated humanely and expressed their happiness at being reunited with their relatives.
