At the conference that opened on Monday in South Africa’s city Durban, Michel Sidibe, Executive Director of UNAIDS said that the UN’s target to eradicate AIDS by 2030 may not be reached because funding from sponsoring countries has been reduced for the first time. He expressed worry about a resurgence of the disease without larger donations. International AIDS Society President Chris Beyrer said that without the right strategic decision, progress in fighting AIDS will be undone.
