Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said Iran is ready to reach an agreement to revive the document, officially called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

However, reaching an agreement is a bilateral process, he said, noting that "the US is a country that has violated its oath under the nuclear deal and must be held accountable for its actions".

The JCPOA was signed by Iran and the permanent members of the UN Security Council (the US, the UK, France, China and Russia) plus Germany in July 2015.

In 2018, the US withdrew from the agreement and re-imposed economic sanctions on Iran, which lead to Iran reducing its commitments under the agreement.
