(VOVworld)- The Iraqi army opened a campaign against insurgents in the city of Ramadi in Anbar province on Sunday after weeks of crisis. The campaign means to subdue the insurgents before the general election scheduled to take place this April. The army, supported by police, government militias, and a government rapid reaction force armed with combat helicopters will target insurgent groups and Al Qaeda terrorists in Ramadi. The army hopes to regain 5 areas currently under the control of the insurgents.
