Israeli strike on UN shelter in Gaza kills at least 27

(VOVWORLD) - An Israeli air strike on a United Nations school packed with hundreds of displaced people in central Gaza has killed at least 27 people, local officials say. The Hamas media office has accused Israel of committing a “horrific massacre”.

In a statement, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said jets had conducted a “precise strike on a Hamas compound embedded inside an UNRWA school in the area of Nuseirat”.

Hamas said the IDF must take full responsibility for deliberately attacking a location where many refugees were taking shelter. Many analysts are concerned that Israel’s increased military activities in Gaza will hinder the negotiation process to find a ceasefire and exchange hostages that has just been proposed by US, Egyptian and Qatari mediators in Doha, Qatar on Wednesday.
