During their conversation, the two leaders exchanged views on China and North Korea, and affirmed cooperation on global issues like climate change.

Michel had planned to visit Tokyo for a meeting with Kishida on Monday but was forced to cancel the trip due to surging COVID-19 infections.

The EU considers the Indo-Pacific region the world’s center of geoeconomics and geopolitics, and believes any disruption there directly affects its interests.
