On a telephone talk with Federica Mogherini, EU High Representative for Security and Foreign Policy, Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono called for the EU’s support in resolving Pyongyang’s abduction of Japanese citizens in the 1970s and 1980s. Mogherini said the EU is interested in North Korea’s human rights and nuclear issues.

The two sides pledged to continue close coordination towards the early signing of the Japan-EU free trade agreement as negotiations had finished last year.
