Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe holds New Year news conference
(VOVWORLD) - Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe says his government will announce the name of the country's new era on April 1st. He said the name will take effect on May 1st when Crown Prince Naruhito ascends the throne.

During the New Year press conference on Friday, Mr. Abe said this time, the name will be announced one month in advance to allow government agencies and Japanese companies to update their systems and minimize the impact on people's daily lives. He said more discussions on constitutional revisions will be held at the Diet. He also expressed his resolve to advance peace treaty talks with Russia this year.
