The earthquakes did not pose a natural-disaster level risk, according to the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center at the Institute of Geophysics.

The Center regularly reports on earthquake activity to local authorities and people, said Dr. Nguyen Xuan Anh, Director of the Institute of Geophysics, adding that the Institute will continue to monitor and analyze earthquake data in Kon Plong District.

Earthquakes have occurred frequently in Kon Plong since 2021. The highest magnitude earthquake recorded in recent years was 4.7, on the afternoon of August 13, 2022.

According to Anh, Kon Tum Province in general and Kon Plong District in particular are parts of a fault zone. Earthquakes in this area, while frequent, do not exceed a magnitude of 5.0, and thus have not yet reached the “Risk” warning level.
