Lawmakers question cabinet members on power supply, tourism, policy for ethnic people

(VOVWORLD) - Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh said on Monday that the entire Vietnamese population will have access to the national grid by 2025.

He gave the pledge at the ongoing Q&A session at the National Assembly. Minister Anh said expanding electricity coverage is a top priority of the Government.

Meanwhile, Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien said Vietnam’s tourism revenue will drop by 23 billion USD this year due to COVID-19. The tourism sector eyed 35 billion USD in 2020. Minister Thien proposed measures to restore the industry.

“Focus should be given to upgrading infrastructure, human resources, promotion, and visa policy. The tourism sector needs restructuring toward professionalism and modernization,” said Minister Thien.

Lawmakers also questioned cabinet members on policies for ethic minority people. Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh said the National Assembly has approved a master plan for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous regions.

“The plan centers around poverty reduction, improving the living conditions for ethnic minority people, leaving no one behind, narrowing the development gap, enhancing people’s trust in the State, and protecting national sovereignty and border security. The 4.4 billion USD will be divided into 2 phases: 2021-2026 and 2026-2030,” said Mr. Binh.

Cabinet members also answered questions on pensions, health insurance, and natural disaster response.
