Leaders pay tribute to Uncle Ho on National Day

(VOV) - A delegation of high ranking officials of the Party, State, National Assembly, Government, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front on Friday laid a wreath at the President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum to mark Vietnam’s 68th National Day.

The delegation included Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, State President Truong Tan Sang, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee President Huynh Dam.

They were joined by former Party General Secretaries Le Kha Phieu and Nong Duc Manh, former State President Tran Duc Luong, former National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Van An, other senior Party, State and Government officials, and veteran revolutionaries.

They then paid a floral tribute to war martyrs at the National Fallen Combatants Monument.

The same day, delegations of the military commission of the Party Central Committee and the Defense Ministry, Ministry of Public Security, Foreign Ministry, Hanoi’s Party Committee, and People’s Committee also laid floral wreaths at the President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and the National Fallen Combatants Monument.

The Vietnamese embassy in the US on Thursday held a ceremony to mark Vietnam’s 68th National Day (September 2nd). Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Cuong stressed Vietnam’s efforts to reform itself and further integrate into the world as well as the implementation of the agreements reached during President Truong Tan Sang’s visit in July. On behalf of the US government, Acting Foreign Minister Assistant Scot Marcial said he believed that the comprehensive partnership between the two countries would continue to prosper in the years to come.

The Vietnamese embassy in South Africa held a National Day of celebration the same day. Ambassador Le Huy Hoang said that Vietnam attaches great importance to developing relations with South Africa. He added that 2013 is an important landmark in bilateral ties during which both countries will hold several activities to mark 20 years of bilateral diplomatic ties and to strengthen cooperation in a number of areas including trade, investment, education, and environmental protection.

A similar ceremony, which was held by the Vietnamese embassy in China, saw the attendance of Vietnam’s Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang yi and Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Thongloun Sisoulith. Ambassador Nguyen Van Tho reviewed Vietnam’s development over the past 68 years and the fine development of relations between Vietnam and China.
