Meeting marks International Day for Biodiversity
(VOVworld) – A meeting marking International Day for Biodiversity was held in Hanoi on Thursday to award winners of a children’s competition on wildlife protection and announce the results of a survey on biodiversity.
The event was co-organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Federation. Deputy Minister of the MONRE, Bui Cach Tuyen, said Vietnam acknowledges the importance of biodiversity and has contributed to implementing international conventions on biodiversity preservation. He said the Party and State have enforced policies and guidelines to enhance biodiversity conservation: "I want to ask agencies and the community to protect wild animals and biodiversity through specific actions such as preventing the hunting of rare animals or participating in mining. Instead, we should prevent illegal activities and foster a model for the sustainable use of bio-systems. I also wish for the increased contributions of press agencies to improve public awareness on biodiversity."
