Military coup in Turkey being crushed

(VOVworld) – The commander-in-chief of the Turkish task force has announced on broadcaster NTV that the force has controlled the situation and the military coup was crushed.

The attempted coup’s leader Muharrem Kose, former colonel has relations with the religious and social movement of the US-based Islamic cleric Fethullah Gulen. A military helicopter used by coup plotters has been shot down.

Turkish broadcaster CNN-Turk reported on Saturday that about 50 soldiers involved in the military coup gave themselves up to government forces on Istanbul's Bosporus Bridge.

The government forces have staged air raids on the tank which is holding the ground outside the presidential palace in Ankara.

According to the Justice Ministry, 336 have been arrested in an attempted coup by the Turkish military while at least 60 people, mostly civilians, have been killed.

President Tayip Erdogan called on his supporters not to leave the squares until the security situations resume stable.
