(VOVworld) – National Assembly deputies questioned Minister of Justice Ha Hung Cuong on Wednesday over the handling of pending documents and improving the capacity of judicial officers’. Minister Cuong said that there remained shortcomings in the judicial sector’s human resources development, which had adversely affected law enforcement activities. Minister Cuong added that although the capacity of Vietnamese lawyers had improved over the past decade, with regard to their participation in international arbitrator organizations and activities, only 0.03% of the total Vietnamese lawyers had been certified for their ability to provide consultations in English. He said: "We’ve paid due attention to human resource development. In 2013, the Prime Minister approved 2 projects to upgrade 2 Universities of Law in the north and south of Vietnam to train judicial officers, with the goal of becoming prestigious regional universities by 2020. A national Academy of Judiciary has also been established to satisfy the national demands for qualified judicial officers to meet the national requirements and international integration standards."
Minister Cuong revealed that by June 10, 2014, there still remained 50 pending judicial documents, accounting for 19.9% of the total documents to have been promulgated from the beginning of the 13th National Assembly. He promised the best efforts from the Ministry of Justice to address the pending issues to ensure the interests of business and people.
