Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan held talks with President of the Senate of the Netherlands Ankie Broekers-Knol

Addressing the event, Mrs. Ngan asked the two sides to continue exchanging delegations to promote mutual understanding and trust, improve the efficiency of consultation mechanisms, and closely cooperate at multilateral forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership (ASEP). The parliaments need to supervise the implementation of cooperation agreements signed by the two governments while promoting information exchanges on parliamentary activities in each nation, Ngan said, recommending the establishment of friendship parliamentary groups.

The leaders said that cooperative ties between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the Dutch Senate have been improving in recent years. Ms. Ngan said she hopes Vietnam and the Netherlands will strengthen collaboration in tourism, transport, education-training, culture, climate change, and water management.

Chairwoman Ngan said she hopes the Netherlands will support the peaceful settlement of disputes in the East Sea, and strict adherence to and enforcement of international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC).

The same day, Ms. Ngan visited the Deltares Institute, an independent institute for applied research in hydrodynamics, geophysics, ecosystems, and relevant policies for deltas, coastal regions, and river basins.
