Ms. Ngan made the statement at a general debate on migrants and refugees at the 138th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, on Sunday.

“As an active and responsible member of the international community, Vietnam is eager to join global efforts to solve migration issues in line with development levels, laws, and international treaties to which Vietnam is a signatory. Vietnam calls on the UN to build a global agreement on legal, safe, and orderly migration, and takes seriously its commitment to UN programs, in particular Agenda 2030 on Sustainable Development towards creating a peaceful, stable environment for national growth,” Madam Ngan said.

Chairwoman Ngan called for increased oversight of the implementation of Vietnam’s national action plan to realize Agenda 2030 on Sustainable Development. The IPU, the UN, and international organizations will play key roles in helping parliaments like Vietnam realize their policies, she said.

On the sidelines of the 138th IPU plenary session, Ms. Ngan met Speaker of the Bulgarian parliament Tsveta Karayancheva, and IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong who praised the Vietnamese delegation’s participation in all IPU events, demonstrating that Vietnam is an active member of the IPU.

The same day, Ms. Ngan left Geneva for an official visit to the Netherlands.
