NA Standing Committee discusses the revised Environmental Law

(VOVworld) – The National Assembly’s Standing Committee discussed pending issues surrounding the revised Environmental Law during the first working day of its 25th session, which opened on Thursday in Hanoi. Lawmakers voiced their opinions over planning for environmental protection, the protection of maritime and island environments, and the state management of environmental protection.

They agreed that environmental planning should involve related aspects of other plans, such as urban and construction planning. They added that it was necessary to have specific regulations on the supervision the imports of waste materials in accordance with legal documents on environmental protection.
Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Financial and Budgetary Affairs Phung Quoc Hien said: "I think that this matter is of great importance for our consideration. We should not import waste materials abandoned by countries with higher levels of scientific development. We should be very cautious if we don’t want to become one of the world’s dumping sites, as the there are many products that are not disposable such as steel, iron, and plastic paper as stated in the import list."
